Benefits of Energy Efficient Air Conditioning Systems in Houston

When you are ready to replace your AC unit it’s going to be hard to beat the quality of a high efficiency model. The standard of energy efficient systems are always improving, resulting in the best performance for your home or business.

What qualifies as an Energy Efficient Air Conditioning System?
There are varying levels of energy efficiency when it comes to air conditioning units. Energy efficiency is measured by the unit’s SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) Rating. In order to qualify as “energy efficient” an air conditioning unit must have a minimal SEER Rating of 14.5. The higher the SEER Rating, the more efficient your system will be.

What benefits are there to making the switch to an energy efficient air conditioning unit?

1. BIG Savings
Everyone loves savings! It’s estimated that 50% or more of the average energy bill is spent cooling and heating your space. Why not help yourself out and cut these major costs down as much as possible? The higher the SEER Rating a system has the less energy that is required to regulate the temperature of your home or business.

2. Energy Efficiency Rebates and Incentives
Some companies provide you with stipend’s for your outdated unit. In addition to that, switching to an Eco-friendly, energy efficient model can qualify you for state and federal tax credits that can help you save even more.

3. Higher Performance
Your home will get cooler faster and more consistently. New systems also are more user friendly and allow you to prioritize which rooms need to be cooled or heated first and allows you the option to leave unoccupied rooms alone. Being able to pick and choose the spaces you spend energy on also leads to savings.

4. Work Smarter, Not Harder
New units don’t have to work nearly as hard as old air conditioning systems used to. Not pushing your air conditioners limits lengthens the lifespan and keeps your unit performing at a high level with less repairs and maintenance.

5. Less Noise
Outdated air conditioning units are loud and disruptive! New unit’s are designed to run quietly as well as more efficiently.

6. Eco-Friendly
Taking steps to minimize your carbon-footprint really does matter! The more people that make the switch to energy-efficient options in their homes and businesses the greater the impact will be on our environment.

Fall AC Maintenance Houston Checklist

fall-ac-maintenance-houston-checklist

Summer is over and Fall has arrived! That means your air conditioner’s hardest work is done for the year but just because it’s starting to cool off doesn’t mean you can just forget about your unit until Spring. Air conditioners require proper cleaning, inspection and elemental guarding for the cold seasons ahead. Taking shortcuts with your unit can result in high dollar hassles and repairs.

HVAC Prep List:
– Clean airways of mold and dust
If the ducts aren’t clean you are contaminating the airways with potentially harmful toxins that can result in poor health.

-Check quality of filters and belts
A long, hot, Texas summer puts a lot of wear and tear on a unit leading to dirty filters and worn-down belts. It is potentially dangerous to leave them in this condition all year.

-Empty drain pans and lines
Mold grows when water is left standing in your system. If your drain lines aren’t properly cleared you may have an overflow issue which can be a very expensive mess.

-Refresh condenser, condensate lines and evaporator coils
Line and coils are notorious for getting clogged with debris and coated in dust which can cause breakdowns. The longer you wait to clean it the harder it becomes to restore to its original state so it’s best to take care of this at the beginning of fall.

-Check condition of equipment
A complete inspection of all components of your system can uncover small issues that can lead to breakdowns. Replace any worn parts and make small repairs now before they cause you a major expense in the spring.

-Protect outdoor units from the elements
Even in Texas it can be important to cover any outdoor units that aren’t being used, to protect them from the harsh elements. It’s best to use a cover designed for your air conditioner, which keeps out the rain, snow and nesting pests, but also allows moisture to escape.
